If e-mail is one of the primary ways for you to communicate with your coworkers, friends and family then you might have heard of Google’s Gmail. As defined by Google, Gmail is a free webmail service that incorporates all of the best features found in other webmail services while at the same time improving and building on new technologies to improve the user experience.

Today, Gmail is one of the largest webmail providers in the world because it is easy to set up and use however one of the things that Google has always paid a great deal of attention to is security. Everyday thousands of people have their personal information compromised and many of them don’t even know it which is why it is important for you to keep in mind some basic tips in order to improve your Gmail account security, let’s take a look:

HTTPS

This is an acronym that stands for hyper text transfer protocol with an added security sockets layer but put in simpler terms, this is a setting to prevent your information from being stolen or compromised while you are accessing your e-mail whether it be from home, a hotel or a public wireless network.

Protect your password

This is one of the most obvious ways for you to improve your account security however many people still use generic and easy to guess passwords such as “123456″ and even the word “password” furthermore, make sure that your password includes both numbers and alphanumeric characters and that you never input your password after following a link which has been sent through e-mail because in most cases this is a form of phishing.

Update your browser

One of the most popular browsers used to date is the Internet Explorer browser, well over 60% of all Internet users use this browser but not many keep the software up to date which lifts them open and vulnerable to malicious web code and attacks. The best and easiest way for you to keep your browser updated is to enable regular updates from Microsoft if you’re using the Internet Explorer browser. If on the other hand you are using Firefox then you will always get a pop up indicating the new version has been released, don’t ignore this message and perform the update.

Change your password every three or four months

While this is something that not many people do it is important that you change your password if you want to keep your information secure. Changing your password as often as every 3 to 4 months ensures that your data doesn’t get compromised and that any unauthorized access will get it eventually blocked. Firefox as well as Google chrome, with a built-in password manager but if you don’t want to keep your passwords within the browser then a really good option is to use an application such as Roboform, Last Pass Password manager or 1Password for Mac.

Scan your computer against viruses and Malware

If you are one of those people who love using “Smileys” and “Emoticons” on your chat and web applications then make sure that in order to access such content you’re not downloading an executable program because this is how spyware, viruses and malware get installed in your system. There are many free options that you can use in order to detect and block most suspicious programs and files.

If you want a free antivirus then Avira “Antivir” or Avast are two of the best options, two great anti-spyware programs are SpyBot as well as Ad-Aware and last but not least you may choose between Comodo or Zone Alarm for your firewall.

This video provides tips for adjusting the privacy settings on your web browser and demonstrates some of the unique features we’ve built into our browser, Google Chrome, that give you options for protecting your privacy while surfing the web.
Help answer the question about tips chrome browser
I keep getting banned at a message board. How do they know its me?
I got banned from a forum because I started a political argument and got mad and made an ass of myself on my favorite forum and now I keep getting banned over and over. I like to sit at my favorite PC at the library and they have DSL by Windstream. I don't have DSL at home. When I looked up the library PC's IP address, I saw my city's location marked on a google map and I saw the IP addy and I made a note of it, after I got banned. I don't know much about this stuff.

But anyhow, I re-registered at the forum with a new username, new password, new email, etc. I click on the activation email, etc., and started posting again. Guess what happened? I got banned again. It is at that point I realize that when you moderate a forum, you can see someone's IP address and apparently, I had been red flagged. Maybe they have software for when the IP address shows up it automatically bans you? Or do they sit there and do it visually?

SO what I was wondering if, if someone else comes along and wants to register at the same site that banned me, and they are in the library, but at a different computer, will they be banned also? Does the forum have software or some way to recognize that 'hey, this user is from City X, from that IP address we banned before, and we have got to ban this new user also!' Is it matching up the IP address, the location, the service provider, the computer itself or what?! If the people who live next door to the library were also using the same DSL provider, would they also be banned? Does each individual pc have it's own way of being identified or something? If I sat at the computer that is in the next booth over, would I be able to register at the site and post, or would I get banned again? How can I get back on my favorite forum and register again so I can post, but keep my opinionated mouth shut, and not get banned this time? I am so disappointed this happened—I had a lot of threads going there, and a lot of online friends, and now I don't know how to get back because each time I've tried (3 times!) I've been banned… Thanks for the explanations on all of this! I'm trying to learn something new here also. I appreciate your help!

And then, a few days later….

Look, you guys, it happened again. A few days ago, I sat here, at my favorite pc and got a new free email address through yahoo, registered again at the forum, clicked on the confirmation link and began to post again. I noticed that each day my IP address was different, as was the physical location (city) it was coming out of. I didn't start any arguments or anything at all, just thank you's, and then this morning, I am banned again.

HOW do they know it's me? Do I just need to clear my cookies or something? I have even used a different browser (google chrome!). I don't get it! Can someone PLEASE explain this to me? What is tipping them off?????? I keep reading that I need to change my IP address to get around this, but I see my IP address HAS been different, so how do they know its me?

If they are banning my IP address, does that mean that everybody in my area, (city) who uses the same provider is being banned also?

Hello, today I will be blogging about the Website Browsers, the software people use to view your websites. It’s essential to know about it for the fact that every Internet user has his own Favorite browser !!

So you may ask “Why is it so essential to know about web browsers for a webmaster ??

Well it’s always good to know about the browsers since your website visitors might access your website from a wide variety of Internet browsers available on the Internet for free ! And have you sometimes wondered how your websites appears on different browsers ?

I will help you know about things that can come in handy for you at times..

As always I will list the most important things that you should be knowing about. And would not be stuffing this article with some weird concepts or other useless things, which is of no use to you anyways.

FireFox:

Firefox (FF) has been the most successful browser for many years now with a wide variety of users. And the Current version of it is Firefox 3.0.10.

You can trust on Firefox for it’s reliability, speed and endurance. Also customize it to the fullest with no hassle. It’s the kind of freedom every Internet user desires for.

Firefox has a huge variety of addons on their website Firefox Addons . You may be already aware of it. But choosing the right addon makes alot of difference. Be sure that the plugin which are created by various FF enthusiasts doesn’t slow down the browsers performance ! Some of the plugins out there does cause few problems. But otherwise it’s quite useful. As far as I can remember I only had 2 or 3 add-on relate issue.

Don’t forget to install this addon : SearchStatus – If you are interested in website rankings from Alexa, Compete, Google.

Internet Explorer:

And the second most important browser to blog about is the Internet Explorer (IE) from Microsoft. Though it is not the most favorite of the browsers out there but still is used widely throughout the world since any Microsoft based OS has IE in it. And am sure many computer users started working with IE and then later skipped onto FF.

IE 6 had a stiff competition with FF when the latter started to took over the market. But there was nothing Microsoft could do to stop it. IE lacked the most important characteristics of all, Speed. And when I say speed both the browsing speed and the browser speed. It was quite good until people started to compare it with FF.

IE 7 was a disaster to many. It wasn’t the kind of successor that people expected when it was released. But many bugs were fixed at a slow pace of time and it still has a grip over the market.

But the charming IE8 is almost neck to neck with Firefox. Many deny it. But try it for yourself. Though I haven’t switched from FF. And I would not cos FF has it all that I ask for.

Chrome:

Well there you go. A browser from the Internet giant Google ! It was no surprise for many since it was quite expected from Google for a number of months before it’s release. And people blogged about it everywhere. It is very convenient to use compared to all of the browsers. Speed is good. And the bugs reported are taken care within the shortest time possible.

Within a short duration (First beta release on September 2, 2008) it has gained the number four position in the browser market as the most used browser. I would recommend to use it if you haven’t already. It’s a very nice experience.

But if I were to choose among the top 3 browsers in here. I would surely stay with Firefox for now. Would switch onto Chrome if it’s ever gonna beat FF. And use IE8 occasionally cos I don’t wanna see it die. It was the gateway for me to the world of Internet…

As a webmaster I would make sure that all of my websites work perfectly on all the browsers that you think is important to you and your visitors. I use Browser Shots to check cross platform issues. You can try that as well.

Be sure to check out your websites appearance on Opera, Safari (Apple) and various other browsers.

Yes IE is the most Used Browser in the world… Firefox is on it’s way though. But whoever leads the market, webmasters should make conscious efforts to accept the users and let them have the best experience on your websites.

That’s it for now. This is just the beginning of the most important discussions that I will be blogging from hereon. So please make sure you subscribe to my feeds. And visit my Blog often for useful tips and tricks.

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone uses the same Internet browser. Sure, there are a large number of Internet Explorer users, but there are also a lot of people who use Firefox, Chrome, Opera and others. That is why it is vitally important, to make sure that your website displays correctly, regardless of the browser it is shown on. If you don’t, all of your website promotion efforts will be a waste of time.

The major web browsers and their market share as of December 2008, is as follows:

Internet Explorer – 68.15%*

Firefox – 21.34%*

Safari – 7.93%*

Chrome – 1.04%*

Opera – 0.71%*

* Source – NetApplications.com

As you can see, if your website only displays correctly with Internet Explorer, you are missing out on a whopping 30% of visitors, that are unable to view your site correctly.

So, how do you ensure that your site is universally compatible with all of the web browsers out there? The answers can be summed up in five basic steps. They are explained in greater detail below.

1. Test Your Website

If you want to ensure that your website promotion efforts remain worthwhile, you need to test your site among the different web browsers. In the past this had to be done manually. But now, there are free services that can do this for you such as BrowserShots.

To use these free services, all you have to do is enter the URL of your website. You can also enter in other specs, such as screen size and color depth, but these fields are optional. The software will then return a set of screenshots, showing what your site looks like in each web browser.

2. Use Basic HTML

Basic HTML is essential to good website promotion as all web browsers can read HTML. Plus, it is a well developed and established programming language, that will enable even ten year old computers, to load HTML pages pretty quickly. Although websites that are designed using basic HTML may not be as elaborate as those created using more advanced languages, but at least they load and display properly.

3. Do Not Use Frames

Foregoing on frames is one of the best kept secrets of website promotion. True, such a suggestion doesn’t help with designing, but if you use frames too much, you risk having display problems if the site is shown on an older browser.

So, if your site needs different sections within the same page, use HTML tables instead. They are universal to most browsers plus, if you know what you are doing, they can actually be more attractive.

4. Do Not Include Fancy Fonts in Your Design

Your site should look good even if standard fonts are used. Therefore try and avoid using some of the more fancier font styles, as some web browsers may have difficulty recognising these. Again, this may not help with your site’s design, but it will do wonders for your website promotion.

5. Limit Your Use of Images

When it comes to website promotion, content matters more than images. This is because when people are really hunting for information, they are not going to care whether or not a site looks pretty. Granted, there are exceptions to this rule, but as long as your site looks neat, uncluttered and professional, don’t worry. Overloading a web page with images may slow down the loading time and can cause problems with the page displaying correctly in certain browsers.

Building a web site can be complex yet simple all at the same time. There are many aspects that many designers and companies skip over during the process. Keeping in mind Search Engine Optimization and usability, crafting a web site should be a well thought-out and organized method.

CODANK Charlotte Web Design is here to provide companies with some of the essential web design tips that every web site should follow. Be sure to refer back to our first set of tips here.

CODANK Tips for Web Design

Browser Compatibility – All sites should be browser compatible. Your site’s look should be the same in Google Chrome as well as in Mozilla Firefox. It is wise not to stop designing a web site after you have found out that it looks marvelous on Internet Explorer. Consult with your designer to make sure that all HTML is correct for each browser.

Navigation – Create navigation on your web site that makes it easy for visitors to go through it. It is best to place all important links at accessible spots of the page – preferably right on top. Try to link as many pages of your web site as possible.

Comprehensible Font – Try to steer away from bright colors and font that may not be available on most computers – such as Comic Sans. The best professional fonts to stick with are Arial and Verdana.

Links – Make it a mandatory duty to check for broken links within your web site before loading it to your web server. In applications such as Dreamweaver you are able to check for broken links on any file.

If you design your web site by using the tips and suggestions from above, CODANK Charlotte Web Design guarantees that each one of your visitors will have a wonderful first impression of your web site.

Everyone would like to have the best looking and most successful website out there! But have you ever wondered what it takes to have a web site that not only looks PRO but also is a hit with your audience? Here are some interesting tips that you may need to keep in mind when designing your website.

Content of the Site

Snazzy animations and colorful banners can make your site look pretty – but it also puts off a lot of serious customers who may be looking for your products and services. The foundation of any site must be made of great content. Your content must be fresh, unique, relevant, concise and compelling. Fresh content means, content that gets updated on a regular basis, unique means – no copy paste from another site. Always avoid content copied from other web sites. Content of your site must be relevant to your products and services and must be comprehensiveness. Content plays a lot of role in sustaining, bringing the new visitors. Moreover content plays the major role in search engine optimization process.

Site loading Time

Make sure that your site pages will not take much time in loading. Use of animations or large image banners and videos hits page load times making your site slow. No one is going to wait for 2-3 minutes to see your site. Remember pages of your web site should be opened like as you turn the pages of a magazine. Use flashes, videos in your site only when it required most. So by reducing the unnecessary flashes, videos you can make your site more user and search engine friendly.

Navigation

Suppose you click on the one hyperlink and get stuck in the page where you don’t know how to go back to the previous or home page – means you make your visitors very angry. Your web site must have a constant navigation bar that has fixed position on every page of your site. Make sure each page of your site have good number of links to other pages. Your navigation should be short and to the point. Avoid too flashy, fancy, dark color navigation buttons or complex navigation menus, that don’t work smoothly.

Meaningless, Useless Page titles

This is the most common mistake by a lot of web designers. Either page has no titles or useless titles like ‘welcome to mycompany name’. Some careless designers even leave the page untitled, which is really unprofessional. Moreover you will see the same page title for all the pages of your site. These type of page titles are useless and for both the visitors and search engines. Page titles are meant to offer a brief description of each page in your site. Your page title must have major keywords of your business, if you plan to look at improving your website search engine ranking.

Browser Support

In the early days, there were just 2 popular browsers, but now, there are at least half a dozen of them – and each will render your webpage differently to your audience. And in the case of Internet Explorer, itself, there are 3 different versions, and all 3 of them display pages in different ways. While designing ensure that your web site is compatible to at least the most popular of browsers. Many web designers do not check site compatibility with major browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and Safari etc. The best way to check the compatibility of the site is to check it with Lynx, the popular text- base browser in Linux. After checking the site compatibility with Linux, you can work on your way in other web browsers.

URL Structures & Site Map

Basically there are the two types of URLs- Dynamic and Static URL’s. Dynamic urls are generated as a result of a search of a database driven website and sometimes looks like http://www.yoursite name.com/product/productid?= 2345&sort=date. This is very confusing both for users as well as for search engines. Make sure that the urls of the pages of your site must be static, which looks like this http://www.yoursite name/products/shoes.html. Static URLs are helpful for both users as well as search engines.

Also make sure that your site has a sitemap. Sitemap’s serve as navigational maps for both visitors and search engines. Obviously you have to generate 2 kinds of maps for each of them. A website that has many inner pages can create confuse your visitors, and a sitemap can get him to the page of his choice. Similarly sitemaps will help search engines to find as many pages as possible, and also help in tracking those pages that have frequent updates and changes.

Outdated Pages

As we saw in the beginning when we discussed about having relevant content in your website, it also means that content has to be refreshed and outdated content removed or archived on a periodic basis. Web sites which offer current news, events and updates cannot afford to put stale news and outdated information, as it makes your audience a bit wary about your company and brand. Make sure all the sections of your site are updated time to time, giving your website visitors and search engines something to chew on every time they visit.

Being over-creative

There are some web sites which show lots of flashes, dark backgrounds, background music and sound while opening the pages of the site. Besides the owner of the site, these sites are hard to understand for visitors. Being over creative in web designing is same as being over smart. Try to make your web site as simple as you can.

These are some of useful web designing tips which every site owner can follow and hope to achieve his goals and web objectives.

I can see many different types off suggestions to Anti Viruses on this site, therefor I decided to make this guide, I will list some few populare programs.

On internet today there are many different threats to consider, viruses can be hidden everywhere and can be transferred through email, USB, Software and internet sites, but the best protection you got against these is Common Sense, you should never open emails which are considered spam, enter sites which got a suspicious name unless your running sandbox mode.

Question: There are many different kind off protection you should consider, but there are so many different kinds off software, so which is the best?

Answer: There is no "THE BEST" anti virus or anti malware, but some are better then others. It is dependent on how you use it and what you preffer

Payed Anti Virus:
- Kaspersky Anti Virus ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features)
- Comodo Anti Virus ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features)
- Eset Anti Virus «Nod32» ( You can also buy this with Internet Security which is called Eset Smart Security)
- Bit Defender
- Avast ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features, I think)
If you are unsure of whetever to download a software most off these will have a "sandbox" mode meaning it will download the software in a virtual envirnment meaning if the file is containing a malicious item it cant harm your PC
- Avira (Effective Anti Virus, pretty similar to Avast)
- Norton Anti Virus 2010 (Norton has earlier been a overpriced inefficent anti virus but with their new 2010 edition their really impressing me with good detection rate and should be consider a very good anti virus)

Free Anti Virus:
- Microsoft Security Essentials
- Avast Free
- Avira free
- Comodo Anti Virus
- Avg (Biggest Free Anti Virus, but it's not one off my favorites and it is supposed to be highly inefficent)

There are many Anti Viruses on the market today, people are taking sides and people are saying their Anti Virus is the best, tests always vary and its up to what you preffer yourself, the one's listed in this guide is amongst the most popular and all are efficent in their own way.

Anti Viruses today always have an in-built Anti Malware engine, many off these are efficent in one way or the other but your protection is way below what you would get if you had a 3rd party Anti Spyware/Malware program, You can run all these Programs listed below togheter, though my Personal Favorite is Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware.

Payed Anti Malware
- SuperAntiSpyware pro
- Malwarebytes pro
- SpyBot Search&Destroy

Free anti malware/spyware
- Malwarebytes
- Spybot Search&Destroy
- SuperantiSpyware
(Got more suggestions, post them, but suggest good software)

Additional protection:
You also got other types off protection, a very important part off your protection is your firewall, it will let you control what applications are allowed access to the internet and other actions.

Firewalls:
Windows Firewall (Effective, standard with Windows)
Comodo Firewall (Comodo.com)
Zone Alarm Firewall (Zone Alarm.com)

Links are located below:
Payed Anti Virus:
- Bitdefender.com
- Kaspersky.com
- Eset.com (Their Free antivirus is Nod32)
- Avast.com
- Avira.com
- Norton.com
- Comodo.com
(Very easy to navigate)

Free Anti Virus:
- microsoft.com/security_essentials/mark…
- Avast.com
- Avira.com
- Comodo.com
- Avg.com

Payed Anti Malware/Spyware
- Malwarebytes.com
- Superantispyware.com (Superadblocker.com too I think)

Free AntiMalware:
- Malwarebytes.com
- SuperAntiSpyware.com

Web Browser:
- FireFox
- Google Chrome
- Opera
- Comodo Dragon (Actually a very very secure browser but with a Plug-In FireFox is supposed to be the most secure browser

There is also one last thing to remmember, in order for your protection to be at it's very peak I would reccomend you check for updates ones a week, as thousands off Viruses comes out every day, the need for a updated system is very high.

Personal Response: Most or all off these programs are great, though these will not give you a everlasting protection, thousands off viruses are found every day, keeping your programs up to date is vital. You will also need a small portion off common sense and doubt, if you by any means see a spam mail with a link to a site, I would not open it, I would rather leave it tf safe on the Internet:

I can see many different types off suggestions to Anti Viruses on this site, therefor I decided to make this guide, I will list some few populare programs.

On internet today there are many different threats to consider, viruses can be hidden everywhere and
Because SpyBot is paid you have both Pro and Free.

This is not just my tougths, its based on tests, and their very effective in General , Comodo is not terrible yet it is highly effective though yes its Virus scan is really suckish xD.

Please don't give me grammar responds, then your really fucked up, give me responds such as other "GOOD" programs or additional details to this
If you got any suggestions how to improve this, feel free to add my msn or email me at glenn_Vitti@hotmail.com, and we could perhaps discuss a more comprehensive guide?
If you got any suggestions how to improve this, feel free to add my msn or email me at glenn_Vitti@hotmail.com, and we could perhaps discuss a more comprehensive guide?
-.-, sorry but cant edit away that annoying double post .
ZoneAlarm is a good Firewall

http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php

This site is not a good site to take facts from seeming it does some weirdo tests and really gives false results. + Comodo gets top marks there -..-

To have a website is just so important these days, if you have a strong web presence , your business will be hugely making profits out it. But merely having a website which is the more or less for so many years, is not going to work in the present world. If you are not providing your readers with an updated, fresh and ever evolving experience, your web site soon be considered as old fashioned, out dated and insecure. Have you beautified your code, validated your markup, and made your XHTML more semantic? Or ever you have tried to implement SEO practices and removed legacy codes. So, keeping in mind all above issues, below are the extremely useful strategies suggesting how can you maintain your website and keep it updated always.

Keep Content fresh and updated: Website maintenance should include ongoing reviews of static content that may require updates or corrections. The content on blogs or newsletters might get old but may not require any modifications, so the best thing you can do is to post new blogs and publish fresh content. The search engine crawlers always look for fresh and updated content, so by doing the above, you can be easily searched by the crawlers and come in the top search rankings results.

Inspection for broken links: Broken links can irritate your potential customers and your business can be into big trouble. Businesses that once linked to your site, may have closed down, thus causing broken links to appear. So, you have to check for the broken links atleast once in a month, or two months.

Check your Rankings in search results frequently: The number and type of keywords used to search for information on your site can change dramatically. The search engine rankings criteria may undergo modifications from time to time, if you don not adjust your website according to that, your ranking may fall, and hence your sales can be affected to a great extent.

Cross browser compatibility testing: Atleast once in two months, check the web site visibility and compatibility in all the major browsers like Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari, Opera etc. Browsershots is probably the most popular tool for viewing screenshots of your website in multiple browsers and on multiple platforms.

CSS3 and HTML5 Enhancements: Not all the browsers support CSS3 and HTML5, you should continuously check that what areas require attention, and new techniques can be applied at those to make them work for all the required browsers.

Monitor Website Analytics: Make it a habit to check the analytics of your website regularly. Some key items like the number of visitors, bounce rate, exit rate, etc. can make you updated about the kind of traffic coming to your website.

Look for Incoming links: Search engines use linking to create a web of linked sites. The more sites that link to yours help determine the popularity of your site. More links means the more is the chances that users will reach to your site.

Leaving your site untouched is not going to help, but continuous efforts can help you in achieving great results.

Netbook Structure: Most netbooks sport small LCD screens, 8.9-inches to 10-inches, versus an average of 15.4-inches for normal laptops. Netbooks generally weigh around 2.2 lbs (1 kilogram) each, far lighter than most laptops, and carry batteries that last up to 8 hours. They cost between US$199 and $799 and lot more benefits.

Here are useful tips for your first netbook:

1. Make sure you want a netbook and not a full-fledged laptop computer.

What do you want to use this netbook for? Do you want a lightweight device for easy Internet access? Or are you really looking for a device to carry around that you can edit video on, play games, or use for other applications that test the computing limits of a netbook?

Don’t buy a netbook if you’re really looking for a laptop, it would be a mistake.

To ensure longer battery life, some key components on a netbook, such as the microprocessor, are less powerful than common laptops. That’s why they’re good for surfing the Internet, sending e-mails, or doing homework.

2. Buy a netbook with an 8.9-inch screen or larger.

Tested an Eee PC with a 7-inch screen, the Surf, and found screen too small. I was not able to view an entire Web page on the cramped display. On a screen that small, you have to scroll left and right as well as up and down to see an entire Web page. Scrolling up and down is normal, but left and right was annoying.

That’s less of a problem on the slightly larger-sized screens and, in the 8.9-inch screen size, the weight and size of the netbook is nearly the same as devices with 7-inch screens.

The 10-inch screens are even better, yet add size and weight to the netbook.

3. Make sure you get a 6-cell battery for your netbook, although you may have to pay $50 more and the device will weigh more.

Most companies started out offering netbooks with 3-cell batteries as the standard, but that doesn’t offer a whole lot of run time, just 2-3 hours. A 6-cell battery doubles that, and in some devices designed around a 6-cell battery, such as Asustek Computer’s Eee PC 901, you can get up to 8 hours.

Another benefit of the larger battery is that it props up the back of the device, putting it on a slight angle that makes typing easier. Keyboards on netbooks are smaller than normal keyboards, and comfortable typing was one area I was not willing to compromise on.

4. Try out the keyboard and make sure it’s right for you.

None of the devices, I tested had a better typing pad than Intel’s ClassMate PC, which has a keyboard far smaller than the Eee PC 1000. Keys on the ClassMate PC’s keyboard are raised and there is a lot of space between them, making them easy to find by touch.

I really liked the keyboards on Acer’s Aspire One, Hewlett-Packard’s Mini 1000 and Everex’s CloudBook Max, but the best keyboard was on HP’s Mini-Note.

5. Software: See what comes preinstalled and consider trying the Linux OS.

There are two lessons on software.

First, some vendors have skimped on including software in their netbooks on the pretense that users can download a lot of free software on the Internet. That’s true, but it’s a bad excuse for not going the extra distance for customer satisfaction.

Who wants to spend time downloading when many netbook makers have added lots of software so users can play with their new netbook right away?

Second, it may be time to the give the Linux OS a try.

Most of the netbooks I tested with Linux booted up far faster than Windows XP or Windows Vista. Which reminds me, don’t buy a netbook with Vista — it’s just too slow.

There are also free Linux-based word processing programs and spreadsheets available on the Internet such as Open Office, Sun’s inexpensive StarOffice and Web-based software such as Google Apps.

Google also offers a nice package of free software, Google Pack, which includes several popular applications such as Adobe Reader, Skype, RealPlayer for music and video, Norton Security Scan and two browsers, Google’s Chrome and Firefox.

6. Price: if it costs more than $500, start looking at a regular notebook computer.

Companies have started promoting a wide range of netbooks at ever higher prices, but once you pass $500, netbooks start to compete with laptops, and a laptop will almost always give you more value for your money.

Laptop computers have far more powerful microprocessors and other components than netbooks, and sport DVD drives. BTW, there are no DVD drives on netbooks.

7. Look around at what’s available.

Many new netbooks have come out. There are a lot of look-alikes since newcomers have copied what the pioneers found to be the most popular configurations. The net effect is to put more good devices out there from a number of competitors. You may be able to pick up a nice machine for a very low price.

In any case, the 10-inch screen devices are a little bigger and more expensive than what I was looking for. Size is important to consider in terms of weight. Ten inch screens, hard disk drives (HDDs) and 6-cell batteries add a lot of extra weight to a netbook.

Several netbooks are now on sale with built-in 3G modules and mobile phone service providers are offering them with 3G (third generation telecommunications) contracts, so people can access the Internet from anywhere on their mobile phone network.

People can also buy add-on 3G or WiMax cards for any netbook.

in which booking for certain tickets opens up at a particular time. Though the site is fast and responsive at all other times, during the opening time, the site becomes too difficult to book a ticket at all, due to the people from all over trying to book the ticket. Mostly, we get the "Cannot find server" error and since it involves payment and stuff, the site is partially https.

Is there tips to get an edge over others to get the pages faster ?
I have tried browsing on 2MbPS, 8MbPS lines, a 64MbPS dedicated server located at USA,
tried IE Firefox, chrome, tried disabling automatic download of images, the page is already browsed and is in the cache of the browser… Any other idea ?
Even a simple one may do the trick. Just need to get a little edge over others.
Please share whatever idea you may have.

The reason for posting it here rather than on a tech forum is to get everyones ideas on this. So please drop a line of any idea that may come into your mind.

If this is your first time creating your business website, then there are several things you need to know to make your website successful. The tips that I am going to share with you here can be used whenever you build a new site for your new business.

Professional Layout:

Make sure that you create a custom web design. Do not copy anyone’s design and use it as your own after making some minor modifications. Your custom website must have a professional look without attractive colors. Try different background colors before finalizing a specific color.

Color Choice:

Using proper colors for your website is important. Avoid using several colors for your background. Also, make sure that the background color doesn’t make the text vague or unreadable. This is why you must try out different colors and see which one fits perfectly.

Avoid Dark or Black Color:

As the background of your website is an important part of the overall layout, I think it’s important to mention that you shouldn’t make your background black or dark. The reason is that if your site contains a lot of text, then it will be difficult for the readers to read everything, because the dark color will eventually begin to negatively affect their eye sight.

Same Look Everywhere:

Make sure you use the same design and navigation on all pages. This will help your visitors get familiar with your website easily and they will also know that they are still on the same website and haven’t been transferred to a different domain.

Avoid a Lot of Flash:

Flash is not bad, but using it a lot on your website is not a good practice. A lot of people still don’t have the plug-in installed so they can’t view it. Don’t put your website introduction in Flash on your home page. Just avoid this practice. Use it in internal pages, but when really necessary.

Check Compatibility with Different Browsers:

This is very important for your business success. Your website may look perfect in Chrome, but it may look completely messy in Firefox. So, what you should do is, you should check how your site looks in all different, famous browsers. If the alignment doesn’t look fine, then you may correct the layout accordingly.

Avoid Pop-ups:

Don’t add pop-ups to attract your website visitors. This is a bad practice and it will annoy them instead of grabbing their attention. People want to get the work done fast and pop-ups can only become a hurdle. So, your visitors will instantly close your website, because of pop-ups.

User-friendly Navigation:

It is very important to have user-friendly navigation on your website. Make all the important pages like Home Page, About Us, Services / Products and Contact Us page visible and easily accessible. Ensure that you provide the same layout, in terms of navigation, on all the pages.

Conclusion:

When you create a new website design, always remember these powerful web design tips to make your start-up or small business a huge success.

It's only about a year and a half old, and its a great computer. However, i am having some issues. It started when the computer would freeze, then come out of it with the text missing. like…imagine a print window, with all the yes and no's being blank..but everything was still there. if you knew which side the yes was on, you could still click it, and it would work. I thought this was just some fluke thing, but it kept happening. I didnt have as much running, and it got better. One day, i had Google Chrome up and it happened. After the crash, it said JAVA ERROR or something along those lines. More recently, while on facebook and using the safari browser, i ran into a Java Error. it said something about BRIDGE location, relocate. Im computer smart, but nothing like that. Sorry for the length of this, but I am just looking for any tips so i dont have to take it up to have it repaired. It keeps getting worse and worse.
I also tried updating Java, and it didnt help at all.
THank you so much!

In today’s advance and competitive market it is vital to make your product and service popular enough which can help your business to thrive. For every type of business it is necessary to have an online presence. More and more people are buying products from online store and shops.

Designing a website is imperative for any business that wants to have an online presence; beside this you also need a good web hosting provider and web marketing expert for online marketing of your website. To ensure your business succeeds, you need to cover all aspects including offline marketing and online marketing. There are lots of aspects you should consider while designing a website, some of them are listed below. Once the website is ready you need a trust worthy hosting company to host your designed pages. Then most important factor is to optimize it for your website visitors and of course search engines.

When designing a website one of the most important aspects of design is to look at the layouts. If you have eye catching and pleasing look website then 50% of your work is done. Below are some basic but fundamental web design tips that everyone should follow. These tips will surely help your website on all aspects:

Color Selection: A vital component in website designing is color selection. The most time consuming part in design is color, because it is the most important factor that leaves a lasting impression on your visitors. Never stick to some set of colors. Be broadminded and select different sets of colors you think are most suitable to your business. Never try to design a website without using colour tone of your logo in your website.

Attractive Layout Design: Try to keep layout simple and eye catching. Do not use heavy images to make your website attractive; just try to use simple background color and small size image. This will help to improve the performance of a website and it will load quickly on slow Internet connection. Try to use white color to enhance overall look of your website. Also choice of font should be simple so it is available on every computer and also easy to read.

Google Chrome allows user to easily relocate or change the user data directory (which includes the browser cache directory) to other location or disk partition.
Help answer the question about tips chrome browser
internet browsers are painfully slow?
I just bought a new computer. Maxed out all the memory I can add to it, Its got a 90 gig hard drive.

IE has always been pitifully slow, and it still is on my new pc.
Firefox isn't the greatest but was better than IE and even its slow.
So, I tried Google Chrome, and I think it is worse than IE!

I have a high speed dsl connection and it is driving me crazy that I can not find a browser that doesn't run like dial up. Any tips to make these any faster or other browser suggestions?

p.s. this pc has windows vista basic if that matters. Nothing on the pc except factory settings and programs (minus me removing a bunch of stuff from start up and changing the appearance to windows classic-helps the pc be faster)
ok so I went to speedtest.net and this is my results:

Download: 9.41 mb/s
Upload: 0.36 mb/s

If you use the Internet regularly, the chances are that you will definitely get infected with adware and spyware. Here are some tips to keep your computer safe from adware and spyware:

Stay away from adult sites and sites related to warez, cracked software, etc.: Most adware and spyware programs spread through these sites. They use browser exploits or ActiveX to install adware and spyware programs.

Use a secure browser: Adware and spyware programs (and also many trojans and virus programs) often make use of browser vulnerabilities to infect and spread. If you use a secure browser, you can stay safe. Use Mozilla Firefox or Opera or Google’s chrome or Apple Safari instead of the default Internet explorer.

Be careful when using torrents, and p2p software: Malware often spread through peer-to-peer networks. Whenever you download any file using torrents or other p2p networks like LimeWire or Ares Galaxy, scan the file throughly using a virus scanner and open the file only after you know it is safe.

Never open email attachments with scanning them using a virus scanner. Malicious programs often spread through email.

Never click on banner advertisements which say “Errors detected on your computer”, “Your computer has been infected with spyware”, etc. These will redirect you to the sites of rogue spyware removal tools. These software report false positives and force you to buy their “full version”.

Install an anti-virus scanner with realtime protection. Also install a firewall and spyware scanner for optimum protection. We recommend AVG and Avira Antivir (both have free versions) and SpywareTerminator (a free spyware removal tool).

As soon as I heard about Google Chrome I knew Chris Pirillo would do a review of it and I knew I had do to a video response.
Help answer the question about tips chrome browser
my computer wont let me browse the internet?
It will connect to the internet ("your internet connection is working") and i know its connected because windows live and skype are functioning well. but when i try to use a browser (google chrome, and windows internet explorer) it gives me an error message. something like "connection refused." I'm only able to ask this question using my mother's mac. last night i was searching for a background picture and downloaded something or another and a message popped up saying i had a virus, and when i thought it was one of those things that gives you a virus when you click on it, i closed everything and reopened the browser, but then it said that google toolbar, along with internet exploreer, and some other programs were infectednot knowing what to do i deleted the file, closed everything and restarted my computer. now its working fine (no error messages popping up), minus the browser problem mentioned above. i scanned the computer using windows defender and it failed to find any problems, which worries me because it might have done some worm virus thingie and disguised itself. please give me some info on this, as well as any tips, previous experience, and what i did wrong. thank you.
i'd appreciate no answers where i have to go to an internet link…..cuz theres no internet connection on my computer…DUH
